I’ve always been interested in learning how to can my own foods. I remember my grandparents canning their tomatoes from their garden, it was soooo good. Last year I bought a starter kit eager to make some homemade blueberry jam that we bought on our blueberry picking trip, but I ended up freezing those into smoothies. Oh I did make a pie out of them though. When I was reached out too in participating in National Can-It-Day, I jumped all over it. While we are on a very restricted diet right now, I want to try and make some pear jam since that is the only low-salicylate fruit I can try with my son. I cannot wait to dig into my new Ball(R) FreshTECH Automatic Jam and Jelly Maker, it makes jam in three steps! Now I have no excuses!
The Third Annual National Can-It-Forward Day webcast will begin at 10am EST/9am CST on August 17th live from Union Square Greenmarket in NYC. You can participate in the live webcast here on canning demos and ask questions that will be answered in real-time! There will also be additional giveaways from the Ball brand offered for those who are tuned in. You can also participate via Twitter using the hashtag #canitforward and on join on Facebook by posting your Can-It-Forward Day stories and photos on our page and in your status updates.
Below are the items that will be included in the giveaway (US residents only, please) that I am giving away. And let’s just say since school is coming up, these will make excellent homemade holiday gifts this year.

My family loves to can and every year my Dad puts away gallons of salsa, while mom cans strawberry jam, pickles, and apple butter. Yesterday I picked up some of the mini ball jars and will be canning homemade dairy gluten free chocolate sauce this week for Holiday gifts. Ohh but some homemade apple jelly would be great this fall.
I LOVE apple butter, was thinking about making pear butter myself!
I follow on twitter @milonguera
Without question I would can blackberry sage jam and blueberry thyme jam. My kids really love jam on sandwiches and a dollop in yogurt and I would like to recreate my mom’s plum syrup because its heaven on pancakes!
