This is something that just came to my mind the other evening. I originally bought DoMatcha Green Tea Powder to use as natural green food dye. But I wanted to give it a try given its health benefits. Here is what they are saying, “This potent powdered green tea is charged with antioxidants and chlorophyll. It is a powerful detoxifier and an extremely healthy energizer …” sounds good to me! What a great energizer that will not spike your blood sugars and naturally helps to detox your body.
When creating smoothies, I have found when creating one for the first time, bananas can make it taste naturally sweet. BUT, I am not a fan of bananas in the morning, it is a great source potassium, but it is also high in tryptophan, serotonin and norepinephrine which helps to promote feelings of well-being and relaxation. This makes for a great bedtime snack for those who combat insomnia, depression and anxiety. However, anytime you can get in something good for you, don’t let something like this discourage you. I don’t buy bananas often because my son is allergic to them. After I completed the Race for Rett on Sunday, they gave me a huge bunch to take home. So I peeled them and stuck them in the freezer right away. Ok, enough talking and here is the recipe!
Banana Green Matcha Tea Smoothie
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup of fresh spinach (kale will work too)
2/3 cup of unsweetened coconut milk (any dairy or non-dairy will be fine)
1 T of flax oil
dash of honey
1 scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder (I use Sunwarrior Warrior Blend)
1tsp of DoMatcha Green Tea Powder paste
Mix one teaspoon of Matcha Tea Powder with one Tablespoon of hot water to make a paste. (I just followed the directions on the package).
Place ingredients in a blender in the order above. Blend and enjoy!
